Infamy, infamy ... they've all got it infamy ...

Will peace ever return to HBC? Will the dogs of war slink back willingly to their kennels? CAB's recent attack of conscience on suddenly discovering (sixteen years on) that one of those who (for the moment, at least) oppose his rule got extra allowances must have been a real revelation to the recording angel. In fact, events in the Civic are are so fast and furious that the aforementioned angel's said to have taken up shorthand in order to preserve councillors' sins and good deeds for judgement day (AKA elections).
Factions are forming, fragmenting and then re-forming with such frequency that someone's bound to lose track & let something slip to someone who was an ally yesterday but a foe today. CAB seems to be determined to cling on to his rapidly eroding power to the bitter end; and having seen the way local politics work in Hartlepool who is to say what that end might be and/or how it might come about? There are no scripts for this scenario and the very track record of some of those staging the coup might be seen as a simmering pot of volatility.
Never mind dishing out gongs to departing mayors; the poor officers who have to work in such a toxic atmosphere are the ones who deserve the medals. Rumour has it that the fly on CAB's office wall is on tranquillisers...
