BLINDED BY THE LIGHT
Published 5th December 2018
Drivers heading from the Mainsforth Terrace/Victoria Terrace junction (adjacent to the the railway crossing at the bottom end of the newly revamped Church Street) are finding the new lighting distinctly disturbing. Whereas neither Victoria Terrace or Mainsforth Terrace are particularly gloomy, the contrast on entering Church Street is dazzling - almost a floodlight level of illumination (as illustrated in the photograph). Maybe the intention was to spotlight the discarded kebabs, empty cans and cigarette ends? Or could it be a subliminal visual trigger to a certain London based member of our 'elite' - a wake up call to let them know that their train's about to pull into their soi disant 'home town'?
