CURSE OF THE STAINCLIFFE?
Published 12th September 2019
It seems that the Staincliffe Hotel (once the domain of Brian Morton, whose empire had over £358,000 of business rates written off under HBC's previous leadership) is once again under threat. Mr Morton handed over the Staincliffe baton to a previous business associate - Paul Montgomery (latterly of Cliffe Hotels Ltd) - who fell into the financial mire, passing the baton on Mr Montgomery's son - now a director of Cliffe Hotels. The Staincliffe has been up for sale for some months now, with a guide price of £798,000. Oddly enough, those running parts of the hotel's current facilities have refuted that it was on the market. Were they in denial or were they kept in the dark? Who knows. We can confirm that the estate agent - Christie - confirmed an approximate timescale, however.
It seems that (under Hartlepool Borough Council's new leadership) officers now have the space to get on with their jobs as, with HBC being a creditor, they have issued a petition to wind up the company. Interesting times ... see the text of the petition below.
