Longscar Hall catches fire
Published 09 May 2018
The Longscar Hall on the seaton front caught fire at around 8.00am on Tuesday 08 May 2018. With the fire spreading rapidly out of control the emergency services were force to close access to the sea front in order to protect a large crowd who had gathered to watch the fire.
The blaze could be seen from across the town with smoke being blown out into the bay. It took upto eight fire applances including 2 hydraulic platforms nearly twelve hours to bring the fire under control and extinquish the flames.
Longscar Hall had been derelict since 2009 and a source of great local controversy both in Seaton Crewe and the rest of Hartlepool. It is the registered office of Longsco ltd no.08893269 and first came to public attention when it was named as one of the former mayor of Hartlepool, Stewart Drummond's , Grot Spots. More recently it was the subject of a public enquiry over a Compulsory Puchase Order for £177000 made against the owners by HBC.
Hartlepool Council hoped to demolish the building as part of its planned regeneration of the Seaton Sea Front. The CPO was rejected by the enquiry and the Longscar Hall remained in the hands of its current owners.
Latest news strongly suggests the authorities belive the fire was started deliberately.
